As plans progress for the 2022 ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ weekend, organisers are now seeking villagers who’d be able and willing to open their gardens to others in support of two children’s charities.
As before, all proceeds from the event on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July will be split between Save the Children and Action for Children. Back in the summers of 2016 and 2018 the Open Gardens proved a great success, with an impressive £2280 raised for the two charities. Sadly, COVID-19 put a stop to the biennial event happening in 2020 so it’s hoped 2022 can make up for that!
Organiser Jane Piggott says: “If you would like to get involved and open your garden to visitors, we would love to hear from you. Gardens do not have to be big or spectacular – just attractive places that visitors will enjoy wandering around. Even a display of hanging baskets would make a welcome addition to the programme!”
As we reported last November, it’s hoped the weekend can take on more of a ‘festival’ feel this time around. As well as open gardens and allotments, there will be ‘live’ music and refreshments at the Ruddington Methodist Church, vintage bus rides around the village, stalls and games in various gardens and an art exhibition at the Framework Knitters’ Museum.
Jane adds: “We will be producing programmes, including a village map, and these will be available from various places in the village, including Thomas James Estate Agents, from 1st June.”
